News in Brief: Mitchell Scholar Named – UVA Today

Zachary Yahn, a fourth-year double major in computer science and computer engineering at the University of Virginia, has been named a George J. Mitchell Scholar to study in Ireland.Zachary Yahn, from Georgia, is UVA’s eight Mitchell Scholar. (Contributed photo)Yahn, from Roswell, Georgia, focuses his research on artificial intelligence. Chosen as a National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates Fellow in the Humans and Autonomy Lab at Duke University, Yahn developed a classification and regression tree for predicting injuries aboard U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and researched safety in self-driving cars. Yahn plans to study artificial intelligence, deep learning, algorithms and cognitive science at University College Dublin.The George J.
