Shippensburg University and the SU Foundation unveil the new name of the School of Engineering Tuesday.

Shippensburg University and the Shippensburg University Foundation on Tuesday announced that its engineering school will be named the Milton and Doreen Morgan School of Engineering and Laboratory.
The university held a ceremony Tuesday that honors the couple who donated to the school. Milton Morgan III is a 1976 graduate of the university and former president of the J. Walter Miller Co. in Lancaster. His donation provides for an engineering scholarship endowment, engineering research endowment, equipment and instrumentation for the laboratory and angel investment dollars that will provide seed funds for student projects.
“The desire to achieve perfection drives innovation towards a goal we will never achieve, but as we advance technologically, the demand for engineers in multiple disciplines explodes exponentially,” Milton said. “Shippensburg University has taken a leadership position as the only Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education School offering a program with various engineering degrees. Dory and I are thrilled to have a role in advancing this program to the next level, the School of Engineering.”
The School of Engineering offers computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering and mechanical engineering courses.
“We are so thankful for the generosity of Milton and Doreen Morgan and excited to advance the School of Engineering through their generous gift,” SU President Charles Patterson said.

In a note emailed to parents at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Superintendent Mark Leidy said the district received a report from a student that another student had a firearm in school.
This work will make the edge of the field more suitable for spectators who want to watch the games, board member Gerald Eby said. “The field is ready to use including the lights.”
“Currently, we don’t have a core reading resource for sixth-grade reading. We are using a wide variety of materials and they do not have a strong research evidence for improving student reading skills,” Superintendent David Christopher said.
South Middleton School Board on Monday night appointed James Decker to replace Bethanne Sellers on its school board after she resigned on Sept. 6.

“I have experience with contractual issues, keeping projects within budget and dealing with the personnel issues related to construction on a day-to-day basis,” James Decker told board members during his interview.
The district is opting to raise its standing budget for the project from $45 million to $50 million by adding funds originally earmarked for future building work at the middle school.
The board could vote Monday on a motion to advertise for qualifications from contractors interested in doing the mechanical and plumbing work at the middle school.
During the interview process, each applicant will have a scheduled time slot to answer questions from board members.
