Spain's Inditex, the world's largest fashion retailer, said on Wednesday sales at constant currencies were up 10% on 2019 levels in the quarter to the end of October, and had continued at that rate up to Dec. 10, helped by strong online demand. Smaller Swedish rival Hennes and Mauritz (H&M) said sales in local currencies matched pre-pandemic levels from September through November. "The recovery continues to gain momentum," Inditex's Capital Markets director Marcos Lopez said in a statement.

FRANKFURT (Reuters) -The European Central Bank took another small step in rolling back crisis-era stimulus on Thursday but promised to hold down borrowing costs next year and even kept the door open to restarting emergency support. The fast-spreading Omicron variant of COVID-19, new pandemic lockdowns and nagging supply chain bottlenecks also leave the outlook exceptionally uncertain, limiting the ECB's ability to commit. In a decision that leaves policymakers with plenty of escape clauses to change direction, the ECB will end emergency bond buys next March but temporarily double the pace of its longer-running Asset Purchase Programme (APP) to ease the transition.
