Trio of local programs accredited by ABET | News, Sports, Jobs – Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Sep 1, 2022
Three degree programs at Pennsylvania College of Technology have been accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET, the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.
The accredited programs are: the Bachelor of Science in electronics & computer engineering technology, the Bachelor of Science in welding & fabrication engineering technology and the Associate of Applied Science in welding technology. All are offered within the School of Engineering Technologies at Penn College.
The accreditation extends retroactively from Oct. 1, 2019, through Sept. 30, 2024.
ABET accreditation assures that programs meet standards to produce graduates ready to enter critical technical fields that are leading the way in innovation and emerging technologies, and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.
“We are extremely proud to have achieved program accreditation from ABET for these additional degree programs,” said Bradley M. Webb, dean of engineering technologies at Penn College. “This outside seal of approval provides more evidence that our programs are preparing tomorrow makers who will make a difference in industry and their communities.
“Furthermore, it opens additional pathways to new employers who seek graduates from ABET-accredited programs, as well as expands the options our graduates have for pursuing advanced degrees. The faculty and assistant deans worked hard to ensure our programs meet ABET’s rigorous standards, and their work has paid off for students.”
Sought worldwide, ABET’s voluntary peer-review process is highly respected because it adds critical value to academic programs in the technical disciplines, where quality, precision and safety are of the utmost importance.
Developed by technical professionals from ABET’s member societies, ABET criteria focus on what students experience and learn. ABET accreditation reviews look at program curricula, faculty, facilities and institutional support and are conducted by teams of highly skilled professionals from industry, academia and government, with expertise in the ABET disciplines.
