The Rosen Center for Advanced Computing (RCAC) will host a Cyberinfrastructure Symposium in Fowler Hall on Oct. 4 that will feature a keynote address from Mark Papermaster, AMD’s chief technology officer and executive vice president. The campus community is invited to attend.
The Symposium, which is themed “Enabling Giant Leaps in Advanced Computing” will begin at 9 a.m. with a welcome from Ian Hyatt, Purdue’s chief information officer and vice president for information technology. This will be followed by a presentation about the state of campus cyberinfrastructure by Preston Smith, executive director of RCAC.
Carol Song, chief scientist for RCAC and the PI on the $10 million NSF-funded Anvil supercomputer, will give a presentation about how Anvil is forging the future of computing and will introduce Mark Papermaster, who will speak from 10-10:45 a.m. with a question and answer session to follow.
Papermaster, who recently joined Purdue’s Semiconductor Degrees Leadership Board, is responsible for Advanced Micro Devices’ (AMD) technical direction and product development including microprocessor design, I/O and memory, system-on-chip (SOC) methodology, and advanced research. He led the re-design of engineering processes at AMD and the development of the award-winning “Zen” high-performance x86 CPU family, high-performance GPUs and the company’s modular design approach, Infinity Architecture. His presentation will focus on what it means to be an engineer and the impact of engineering on society.
The rest of the day will be dedicated to presentations from RCAC research partners about how the clusters have enabled their research. Scheduled speakers include:
There will also be a poster session from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in Stewart 214, where students will present posters about their research.
