Awantipora: One Day workshop on Women in Data Sciences was organized by the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre, Islamic University of Science and Technology today. The workshop attended by students, scholars and faculty members from the departments of Computer Science and Computer Engineering was organized by the Women Entrepreneurship Development Cell of the Centre.
The event was presided over by Dr. Parvez A Mir (Director, CIED) and coordinated by Dr. Rumaan Bashir (Coordinator, WEDC). The resource persons of the workshop were Aamir Khan (Head AI operations, TripAI), Maleeha S. Koul (Data scientist IBM), Umar Showkat (Data Analyst) and Fahyeem ul Nisa (Data Scientist).
Khan spoke about Artificial intelligence and Machine Learning in travel Industry and career opportunities in the industry. He said, “Like Dynamic Pricing Engine that helps to set the price as per the behaviour and demand of the market, there are several areas of Data Sciences in which students can plan their projects”. He encouraged students to polish their skills, gain more knowledge and develop the right attitude to be successful as an entrepreneur”.
Koul talked about the prospects and challenges in the area of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. She shared information about multiple tools like Programming languages, development tools, open-source libraries and developer platformsthat students can employ for skill enhancement and polish their competency as data scientists and analysts.
Talking about the aim of the workshop, Dr Mir said, “CIED is committedto developing an ecosystem for promotion of entrepreneurial culture in Kashmir and this workshop was aimed to make the students aware about the career prospects in Data Science”. He said that CIED is also going to sign an MoU with USA-based TripIA that will help in regular training of the students in data science. Welcoming the speakers, Dr. Rumaan Bashir said women in entrepreneurship can inspire young women to break the stereotypes and take up challenging assignments”. The workshop was also attended by Dr. Shayika Nasreen and Dr. Ruheela Hassan (Members of WEDC).
