Register for Blue Sky Thinking on Computer Networks in Space, July 12-13 – Virginia Tech Daily

1 Jul 2022
From: Commonwealth Cyber Initiative
Together with the University of Surrey in the UK and based on the space networks testbed under development at Virginia Tech, Commonwealth Cyber Initiative researchers from the Kevin T. Crofton Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering are organizing the two-day Blue Sky Thinking on Computer Networks in Space workshop, July 12-13, to bring together the satellite/aerospace community with computer networking and communications.
Speakers include well-known academics from both communities who are conducting pioneering work in this area as well as Microsoft Research, Vodafone, and NASA. The event concludes with a panel of U.S. and U.K. funding agencies (NSF, EPSRC, Innovate UK) talking about opportunities in this space.
If you would like to attend, please register directly on the workshop site. There will be in-person and virtual attendance options. For anyone interested in attending in-person at Virginia Tech, a room has been booked on campus, and organizers will arrange for one in Arlington if there is sufficient interest.
The agenda (PDF) includes lightning talks on July 13, and organizers encourage lectures from any student or faculty member who might have relevant work on connecting satellites together, especially in LEO mega-constellations. If you have interest in participating in the lightning talks, please contact Jonathan Black and Samantha Kenyon
If you are interested in space networking and space communications, regardless of your ability to attend the workshop, please take five minutes to complete this survey: https://forms.gle/dveeFsqMmgj8GMwG9. The workshop organizers will use the responses to help structure some of the event discussion.
