SPSCC Welcomes 20 full-time faculty members for 2022-23 – The Jolt News

South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) this week kicked off its 2022-23 academic year, welcoming 20 new full-time tenure-track faculty members to the college.
Kristofer Alston, Nursing Professor
Alston received his Associate of Science degree from Lone Star Community College, Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Chamberlain College of Nursing, and his Master of Nursing in Nursing Informatics from Western Governors University.
Ryer Banta, Open Education Librarian
Banta received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Media & Theater Arts: Motion Picture/Video and his Master of Library and Information Science degree from University of Washington.
Maria Díez-Ortega, Spanish Professor
Díez-Ortega received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Teaching English as a Second Language and Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and Master of Arts degree in Hispanic Studies with Spanish Linguistics Specialization from University of Hawai’i at Manoa.
John-Patrick Downey-McCarthy, Culinary Arts Professor
Downey-McCarthy received his vocational Certificate in Restaurant and Food Service from South Seattle Community College.
Gregg Erickson, Computer Information Systems/Computer Science Professor
Erickson received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from University of Washington and his Master of Science degree in Industrial Technology and Master of Business Administration degree from California Polytechnic State University.
Daniel Hollis, Business Professor
Hollis received his Bachelor of Arts degree in World History from North Carolina State University, Master of Business Administration degree in Strategic Management/Public Accounting from Pace University School of Business, and Juris Doctor Environmental Law Certificate and International Law Certificate from Pace University School of Law.
Matthew Ito, English Professor
Ito received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Biola University, his Master of Arts in English with a focus in Cultural Studies in Asia/Pacific and is currently working on his Doctorate degree in English from University of Hawai’i at Manoa.
Tiffany Johnston, Dental Assisting Professor
Johnston received her Associate of Applied Science degree in Dental Assisting from South Puget Sound Community College and her Bachelor of Science degree in Professional Technical Education and Instructional Design from South Seattle College.
Paradise Low, Mathematics Professor
Low received her Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Programing from Joliet Junior College, Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Apparel and Textile Design from Michigan State University, and is completing her Master of Science degree in Applied Mathematics from Northern Illinois University.
Dr. Sara McCamman, Nursing Professor
McCamman received her Associate degree in Nursing from North Western Wyoming Community College, Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from University of Mary, and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree in Advanced Practice Nursing from University of Wyoming.
Gabrielle Morales, ABE Reading & Writing/I-BEST Professor
Morales received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Written Communications from Bushnell University and Master of Science degree in Education, Reading/Writing/Literacy from University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education.
Shruti More, Computer Information Systems/Computer Science Professor
More received her Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science Systems and Computer Engineering Systems, Master of Science degree in Computer Science Systems, and is currently working on her Doctorate of Computer Science from University of Washington.
Joseph Owen, Welding Professor
Owen received his Associate of Applied Science degree in Welding Technology from Los Medanos College.
Dr. Patricia Poblete, English Professor
Poblete received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Writing and Master of Arts degree from La Sierra University, and her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Rhetoric and Composition from Purdue University.
Jolyn Ponder, Medical Assisting Professor
Ponder received her Associate of Applied Science degree in Medical Assisting from South Puget Sound Community College.
Brad Schrandt, Music Professor
Schrandt received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with an emphasis in Jazz Studies from Winona State University and his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies and Improvised Music from University of Washington.
Eric Spieth, Business Professor
Spieth received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Art and Communication Design and Digital Film from California State University and Master of Business Administration degree and Certificate in Community College Teaching from Humboldt State University.
Dr. Paul Tran-Hoang, Philosophy Professor
Tran-Hoang received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from University of California, his Master of Arts degree Philosophy and Master of Science degree in Mathematics, and Doctor of Philosophy degree from University of Notre Dame.
Jean-Baptiste Urtecho, Biology Professor
Urtecho received his Bachelor of Science degree in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior from University of California, Davis, and Master of Science degree in Biology from California State University.
Stephanie Ybarra-Rotelli, College and Career Success Professor
Ybarra-Rotelli received her Associate of Arts degree from South Puget Sound Community College, her Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre and Literature from The Evergreen State College, and her Master of Arts in Writing and Directing for the Theatre from Humboldt State University. She has worked part-time for the college since September 2015.
