University awarded $840K for Choose Ohio First – University of Dayton – News Home

The University of Dayton was awarded nearly $840,000 for Choose Ohio First scholarships to recruit and graduate students studying the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.
“We are committed to STEM education and preparing the workforce of talented graduates Ohio needs,” said Paul Benson, provost and executive vice president of academic affairs. “The Ohio Department of Education scholarships help us support students as they pursue their chosen fields, gain relevant hands-on learning experience, and go on to make a difference in their communities.”
Computer engineering major James Dewall said he chose a STEM field because he has always enjoyed helping others by solving complex problems.
“The scholarship helped me to feel more secure in choosing an Ohio school to study a STEM field,” said Dewall, who has worked at Crown Equipment Corporation for two terms to learn new technical and professional skills he’ll use in his career.
Choose Ohio First Scholarships are available to students studying biochemistry, biology, physics, environmental science, pre-medicine, engineering, and other fields.
More information on the state’s Choose Ohio First program is available online.
