Leading Analytics Consultant Joins Epstein Department as Full-Time Teaching Faculty – USC Viterbi | School of Engineering – USC Viterbi School of Engineering

Bruce Wilcox comes to USC Viterbi after a distinguished career working within top-tier consulting firms.
Bruce Wilcox joins the Epstein Department after an extensive career in analytics consulting.
Bruce Wilcox, an analytics consultant with a 30-year career working with major corporate and government clients, has joined the Daniel J. Epstein Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering as a senior lecturer.
Wilcox has an extensive background working with leading firms in the management and IS consulting field, and now brings his invaluable expertise to a range of classes within USC Viterbi School of Engineering’s Master of Science in Analytics program.
Most recently, Wilcox worked for eight years as a senior account executive with the SAS Institute, a provider of advanced analytics software and solutions for data-based decision making, where he consulted with government clients in California on the use of advanced analytics computational tools and solutions.
“After a long career in analytics consulting, I am very excited to fulfill my long-time goal and transition into a full-time faculty position at such a prestigious institution as USC,” Wilcox said.
Wilcox will teach three of the program’s mandatory classes, Predictive Analytics, Data Management, and Data Mining.
“I am also teaching one elective class that I developed in 2020 — Enterprise Business Intelligence and Systems Analytics — that focuses on how large organizations are using advanced analytics tools and management approaches to scale analytics to large teams,” Wilcox said.
“I am particularly interested in collaborating with my new ISE colleagues to develop new techniques and curriculum to teach analytics, and in publishing new materials on the topics of data engineering and ModelOps,” he said.
Wilcox completed his BS in Electrical Engineering and MS in Computer Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University, followed by an MBA from UCLA and a Ph.D. in Engineering and Applied Mathematics from Claremont Graduate University.
Prior to his role at the SAS Institute, Wilcox was a director at systems integration firm Sierra Systems, a founder and principal at BLIU Consulting Group, and a co-founder of management consulting firm Bluecrane.
Wilcox has previously contributed to the USC Viterbi MS Analytics program as a part-time lecturer. Prior to this, he taught for twelve semesters at California State University, Long Beach, and has been a visiting international professor at National Economics University, Hanoi, Vietnam, teaching two short courses in quantitative analysis to advanced finance students.
